Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton Racecourse was Britain’s first ever floodlit track giving it a unique atmosphere for evening racing, as well as afternoons, all year round. It is also Britain’s hardest working course hosting over 100 race meetings this year being particularly busy from September onwards. As well as being close to Wolverhampton the course is only 15 miles from Birmingham. “Wolves” is a left-handed oval of just seven-and-a-half furlongs which gives it a similarity to most American race tracks. It is an ‘all-weather’ course meaning that rather than racing on turf they race on a Polytrack surface allowing them to race during any weather conditions and at any time of the year. Polytrack is basically a mixture of sand and fibres and has the texture of dirt.

Some of Wolverhampton’s bigger race meetings include;

• LINCOLN TRIAL DAY – featuring the Lincoln Trial, which as the name suggests is a trial race for the first part of the renowned Spring Double, the Lincoln Handicap, which is run at Doncaster Racecourse at the beginning of the flat turf season in March. Also this day is the Lady Wulfruna Stakes which is the only Listed race at the track.

• FAMILY FUN DAY – taking place in the middle of the school summer holidays in August this gives parents a great chance to watch some racing while taking the kids for a great day out.

• LADIES EVENING – takes place in September and gives everyone a chance to get dressed up as is tradition on such days in racing. Ladies Evening is considered the highlight of Wolverhampton’s social calendar.

ENCLOSURES

THE GRANDSTAND – A great value part of the track with admission at just £10 for general meetings, facilities include The Weigh Inn, a lively bar within easy reach of betting facilities, The Chasers Bar and The Grandstand Enclosure which provides access to the concourse bars and restaurant.
PREMIER ENCLOSURE – Still well priced at £15 for midweek fixtures and £20 at weekends The Premier Enclosure is situated on the first floor with superb views across the track. There are plenty of facilities including The Premier Bar with various food outlets and TV’s around the area offering live coverage and replays of races.

HOSPITALITY AND EVENTS

Wolverhampton considers itself an extremely versatile venue as it is considered to be not only one of the best sporting venues in the Midlands but also one of the best entertainment venues around hosting live music events amongst other things during the year. As a Conference Centre Wolverhampton is perfect for any type of meeting, exhibition or even a civil wedding ceremony!

The Ringside Restaurant and Horizons Restaurant offer great choice and 8 private suites within the racecourse offer hospitality in a stunning location. Entertainment is excellent at the course as after almost every Saturday night race meeting comes live entertainment in the Ringside Suite.

The Midlands venue is truly adaptable and able to cater for almost any occasion. Race goers, conference guests and wedding parties alike will certainly enjoy their experience at Wolverhampton.
